Cristal Challenge (Resize 970X460)

What does “cashing out” mean?

We give each participant a one-time opportunity to sell one of their stocks during the competition.

Why? Because markets move, and we want you to have the option to lock in gains or limit your losses, just like real investors do.

There are two common reasons people cash out:

  • The stock has soared, and you don’t think it will go much higher.
  • The stock has taken a hit, and you want to cut your losses before it gets worse.

Can I replace the stock I cashed out?

No, and here’s why:

Replacing stocks mid-competition makes tracking returns a messy and time-consuming process. To keep things fair and manageable, once you cash out, you don’t buy anything else. You simply stop tracking that one stock and hold onto your remaining choices.

When should I cash out?

That’s entirely up to you and it’s part of the fun!

Do you think your stock has hit its peak? Or do you feel it’s dropped in value and may not recover? Timing the market is tough (even the pros get it wrong), but this decision is where strategy comes into play.

How do I let you know I want to cash out?

Just send us an email with your request. That way, we have a clear record of it.

Your stock will be cashed out at the end-of-day price on the day we receive your email.

What happens if I don’t cash out?

Nothing at all.

You’ll simply hold that stock until the end of the challenge and that’s exactly what most people do. But if you see a smart opportunity to cash out, go for it!

Can I change my mind and cash out another stock later?

Not for now, you only get one cash-out.

But who knows? We might review that rule in future versions of the challenge.

Will it help or hurt my overall performance?

It depends. If your stock keeps climbing after you sell it, you might miss more gains. But if it drops further, you’ll be glad you locked in what you could. That’s the risk–reward trade-off and it’s all part of the learning experience.

Final thought

Your cash-out option is your one chance to think (and act) like an investor in real life. Whether you use it or not, it’s a great test of your instincts, strategy, and timing. So… will you hold? Or will you cash out?
