This Mandela Day, Sasfin Wealth joined hands with Afrika Tikkun in a meaningful act of service, packing 67 wellness packs every 67 minutes for young learners at their Alexandra centre.

More than just a day of giving, it was a chance for us to come together, roll up our sleeves, and make a real difference in the lives of children who need it most. With over half of South African children living below the poverty line, access to essentials like soap, toothpaste and facecloths can’t be taken for granted.

But on this day, hope was packed into every box. It wasn’t about ticking a box, it was about standing together, honouring Madiba’s legacy, and reminding ourselves that even the smallest acts of care can leave a lasting impact.

“Days like Mandela Day matter because they give the people who support us the opportunity to experience what we do,” says Sikhumbuzo Mnculwane, Centre Lead at Afrika Tikkun. “Often, funding something from a distance can feel impersonal. But when you're here, interacting with the children and seeing the staff in action, it reminds you that your contribution has real impact. That’s what we do on Mandela Day, that’s what Sasfin Wealth does every day.”

The idea for wellness packs came directly from Afrika Tikkun’s team, who know the daily realities many families face. “Tlaleng Nkopane, our partnership manager, is close to the needs of the centres,” says Kgothatso Mothopeng, Financial Manager at Sasfin Wealth and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) champion. “With rising living costs, these essentials are no longer guaranteed at home. Our goal was to help bridge that gap in a small but meaningful way.”

This year, Sasfin Wealth aligned its annual CSI initiative with Mandela Day to strengthen the impact and reinforce its values. “Mandela Day is about reflecting on how we show up for others, in our work, and in our communities,” Kgothatso adds. “It’s a reminder that you don’t need to do something grand to make a difference. You just need to do something.”

The Sasfin team did just that; packing, volunteering, engaging, and giving their time to make a difference. It wasn’t just about the 67 minutes, it was about connection, presence, and purpose.

As Sikhumbuzo beautifully put it, “The relationship with Sasfin Wealth supports our mission. Not just financially, but by being here in person and experiencing this with us.”
