Sasfin Wealth’s Chief Global Equity Strategist, David Shapiro, started the Cristal challenge in January 2021. Named after the famous premium champagne, the challenge is a fun and exciting opportunity to encourage outside participation within the stock market. David initially started with 10 players and has grown the challenge to 77 participants who each are allowed to choose 5 stocks. The participants have to stick with their stocks for the full 11 month period.

At the end of the period, whoever has made the most money is awarded with a bottle of Cristal. There are also prizes for those who are not professional financial planners and brokers. This year, My Broadband has announced it will be pledging a R20 000 Afristay voucher, while Easy Equities is also pledging 2 prizes of  R10 000 each.
